And Doc Martin, a current day dramedy set in a small village on England's Yorkshire coast. They have in common the uncommon attributes of fine writing, directing, and acting. An American series that I like is Blue Bloods, a cop show that does not depend on chase scenes and slurpy CSI sounds to fill their time-slot.
